Brown Lady Comparison Page
The left hand image shows correct exposure for the
negative. The right hand image shows an intentionally darkened
imaged. In viewing the image in this way it becomes evident that the
ghostly effect is most likely caused by intense light from both the
second story window and the camera flash. The flash is perhaps most
evident against the chair-rail at the top of the stairs which gives
the illusion of a head.
It is also important to notice that there is a
double image on the negative. The fact that the stair rail does not
line up is apparent. This problem may have been caused by either
intentional double exposure or the hurried conditions in which the
picture was taken. SF
